St Anne’s Festival for this year….

St Anne's Church, Bukit Mertajam is a famous Roman Catholic church located in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. It is one of the parishes in the Diocese of Penang and the biggest religious celebrations among Christian  in Malaysia.. Its annual celebration of the feast of St Anne(St. Anne's Annual Novena & Feast Day Celebration)  regularly attracts over 100,000 pilgrims from Malaysia as well as neighboring countries like Singapore, the Philippines and Australia. The celebrations lasts for 10 days, and includes the actual feast day on 26 July.

To enjoy St Anne’s Festival for this year, it is better to book your stay at motel earlier and nearby just in case to avoid heavy traffic. For new visitors or foreigner, Demotel is a strategic motel in which it is very near to  The Church of St. Anne in Bukit Mertajam. As  some hotels around Bukit Mertajam and Penang may too pack for last minute booking, so you are advise to call for book at Demotel during this grand festival. 

The 10 day Novena looks like  a carnival atmosphere to the town of Bukit Mertajam and the church compound.  The theme for this year’s fest is “Deepening Discipleship Through Family Life” and the slogan is,” My Family , My life” There will be different masses and prayers throughout this 10 days, which is conducted for various causes including youth, education and family. The highlight of the Novena is a procession which will commence on the 30th of July at 9p.m.


Built in 1957, The Church of St. Anne, Bukit Mertajam is a significant part of Penang’s history. Many historical relic can be found at the church’s compound such as the beautiful stained glass at the altar.  Another attraction of the church that is available all year round is the 15 Cross Stations with life sized statues that depicts the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ.
