Merdeka Clock House is known as Rumah Jam Merdeka which  located in Kulim town, the  third largest town in Kedah after Sungai Petani. The Merdeka Clock House only 20 minutes away from DEMOTEL . If your choose to stay at DEMOTEL you have the chance to visit the memorial tower during your visit to celebrate Malaysia Independence Day.

Rumah Jam Merdeka Kulim is a clock tower which  was built to commemorate the Merdeka Celebration.  " Hari Merdeka " (or Independence Day) is a national day of Malaysia commemorating the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule, which was on the 31st, August 1957.

The clock tower's foundation stone was officially laid by the first Prime Minister of Malaysia , Tunku Abdul Rahman Al Haj on Friday the 14th, June 1957  that marked the beginning of construction works. Tunku Abdul Rahman Al Haj was also the Kulim's District Officer in 1939.

The clock tower was completed  and officially opened by Sultan Sir Badlishah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Sir Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the State of Kedah, the 29th Sultan of Kedah (1943-1958) on 15th September 1957.


The clock tower sits on a platform in a mini size garden surrounded by pillars of sportlight and next to the Kulim Magistrate Court at Jalan Bukit Awi (Route K12). Its clock face is square in shape and its number of characters are designated with Roman numerals on all the four faces, which are sheltered by a roof.
